August 29, 2007:

Well, I purchased this domain name to make a website to host photos and videos of our family so that those far away could keep up with our happenings and photos. Then, before I could build the site, we got the news about Karen's cancer. This site has since grown into one more about our battle with the cancer and to give updates to you all.

Today is the first day that Karen has been able to look at the computer since the surgery last week. But, I've kept her up to date on how many messages she's got waiting for her, and the names of some of the people that have left them. Can I just say that you all are AWESOME?? Neither of us had any idea how much love and support surround us. It's so comforting to know there are dozens of people and families that we can lean on in our time of need. We both really appreciate it. We're confident that Karen will get through this period of time in our life and will be able to, in turn, give someone else the support that they may need in their own difficult time in the future. This cancer is but a hurdle for us to get over, and we will make it.

Karen has started reading all the posts you guys have left for her on the messageboard. She's also started replying to them, in order that they were left (start reading from the bottom up).

I'll try to keep you all updated via e-mail of when she posts another update, and I'm trying to incorporate some photos (and those pre-op and post-op videos!) so that those of you that have never met us can put a face with the name.

She's feeling much better today after getting those dreaded drains taken out of her sides. She'll actually be able to start making it over to her side to sleep on in a few days instead of being on her back ALL THE TIME! We did get word today that she will most likely be getting the radiation treatment after the chemo (more on that in her updates), so that was a downer, but again, we'll make it through whatever tests and trials we're put through.
